Honesty isn't a courtesy you extend to other people, even though we treat it that way. It's something else first. Honesty with anyone else only goes as deep as the honesty you have with yourself, and without that self honesty there's no real repair, no real healing, no real growth, just the same fight on a loop with different words.

I wish more people understood: annoyance is not a red flag. It’s the tax you pay for being in a relationship with another imperfect human being. Your mom will say something that lands wrong. Your dad will bring up something you’ve asked him to drop a hundred times. Your sibling will forget your birthday again. If your bar for “this relationship is harmful” is “this relationship sometimes frustrates me,” you’re going to end up alone.

Most people wait way too long to start therapy. They push through, white-knuckle it, tell themselves they should be able to handle it on their own until they can't anymore.
